Positano in October

A little birdie’s been a’whisperin’ in my ear and it sounds like I have an awesome opportunity to travel to my homeland, (ok fine) my wannabe homeland, in October. To sunbathe on the Amalfi Coast is such a dream of mine. Ever since my first trip to Italy and Naples when I had the chance to visit the Blue Grotto off the island of Capri, I knew I had to get my butt in that water and ON that coast. Sadly, an awfully rainy day took us to Pompeii instead of Capri and Blue Grotto. Moreover, it’s obvious that a return to Italia is necessary.

I may be getting ahead of myself, as the flight isn’t purchased yet, but could you please look at this beautiful piece of land and water and architecture?

Thank you God for places like Positano. Without them, where would we dream of traveling to? How would we create such beautiful, lively, and colorful photography? I hope I am blessed to walk the sands and roads of Positano this October. If I may add to that prayer, I hope I am also able to get on a boat and finally visit the Blue Grotto which has become another big dream of mine.

I mean, because, why not?

For those that aren’t familiar with this majestic sea cave:

The Blue Grotto (Italian: Grotta Azzurra) is a sea cave on the coast of the island of Capri, southern Italy. Sunlight, passing through an underwater cavity and shining through the seawater, creates a blue reflection that illuminates the cavern.

The Blue Grotto is one of several sea caves, worldwide, that is flooded with a brilliant blue or emerald light. The quality and nature of the color in each cave is determined by the unique lighting conditions in that particular cave.

In other news, I just stumbled on Ms. Lulu of Berry Diaries whom recently traveled to the Amalfi Coast, specifically Capri Island and Sorrento. Her posts and photos just made me SO excited. I should just buy that flight now right?

College Grad

LOL- in short- I legit finished my degree back in December 2009. BUT, I wanted to travel- so I chose a cheap option, and went to Italy for the month of Jan 2010 with CUNY HUNTER- actually brought in the New Year somewhere in the middle of the North Atlantic.

Things got crazy and I hadn’t applied for May ’10 graduation on time.

A lot of my friends- that I finished my degree with, finished that semester (Spring 10) and were walking in May. I WAS NOT missing out on that- and let’s be serious, I couldn’t get by with the fam NOT walking at A graduation. So, I snuck in- got a couple of tickets from a couple of friends (they don’t check them anyway) AND, bought a cap and gown because they don’t check your info to buy it! LOL. I also really just wanted a 2010 tassel to hang in my car- (westchester thing), I also didn’t see the need to wait until May 2011 to walk with a bunch of strangers.

Any who- more problems later- my degree wasn’t conferred until September 2010- and I had a balance on my account for the “class” I took with Hunter. Which I kept putting off to pay. I finally decided this month to drop the cash, pay the bill, get my diploma and say GOODBYE to CCNY officially.

Funny story: I got paperwork in the mail to register for May 2011 graduation… L   O   L. :)

Lambo Gallardo

Oh yes. I am a sucker for sexy cars. When I have the money to splurge in the future- I’ll get a couple of fast sexy cars- and I might consider this one.. well because in a past life- I WAS Italian, and therefore I’ll continue to channel my Italiano roots. Firenze, Come Mi Manchi

Missing Florence… especially today. Only in a city that beautiful is it ok to graffiti ALL over. Why? Well because all the graffiti is about LOVE. … Really? LOL. Only in Italy, screw gang signs… “TI AMO MARIA PER SEMPRE” … I freakin wish.

Just some of the love graffiti from my trip to Firenze back in Jan 2010-

…and one of my favorite songs that I couldn’t stop listening to while I was there…

Grenade in Italian is “Granata”

O dioooo! So it was leaked by TMZ and confirmed by MTV: Jersey Shore Season 4 is headed to Italy. Where they’ll stay, and what in god’s name they’ll be doing is unknown, but it is confirmed they’ll be crossing the Atlantic and grace the boot with their drunken hot madness :)!

I told a couple of friends of mine about the big news, and a very funny friend of mine… Meghan, basically scripted the season as follows:

“If italy sent over a bunch of obnoxious, ridiculous looking transfer celebs for a party abroad program here in the US, i wouldn’t watch it. i wouldn’t care.

ugh and you know there’s going to be all those token shots of them on a gondola eating cannolis and shit. then in their commentary they’re going to try to convince us that they have something to do with the culture, that they’re “coming home”. then there’s going to be soooo many hilaaaaarious mix-ups because they don’t speak the language! then snooki’s going to throw up everywhere all over italy and make me never want to go visit.”

Too funny! They are to begin filming Spring 2011. Stay tuned… I’m excited, are you?

Not So New Years…

Tomorrow will be a weird day for me, as a year from tomorrow was the last time I saw my grandfather.  I went to visit him at the hospital, and brought him a light up Santa hat, on my way down to the airport; I spent New Years 2010 on a plane to Florence Italy.

Every time I think about that night, and how I kissed him on the head, I wonder if he knew that was the last time he’d see me. He passed away January 8th, 2010, and my family, especially my mom, have never been the same since.

I found out while I was down in the south of Italy in Naples, at a hostel with my friends…@lulujaxon. My mom actually told me to stay because that’s what he’d want… she was crazy, actually. I flew home in time for the last day of the wake, and then for the funeral. First time anyone close to me has passed away, what a strange experience to say the least.  I don’t want to reminisce much…

But will end on this note, that I will always love him like the father I never had, with all the love in my heart. I still cry at the thought of my mother’s sadness to have lost him, her father.
